How a festive campaign actually runs
The festive window is short and every brand is chasing the same few weeks. What decides the outcome is usually the calendar, not the budget — here is the shape of it.
- 8–10 weeks out
Shortlist and hold
The names worth having are committed early — a face that is free in September is rarely free in October. This is when a shortlist is built against the brief and holds are placed, before availability rather than budget starts deciding the casting.
- 6–8 weeks out
Contract and lock the shoot
Fee, usage rights, territory, duration and exclusivity are settled, and the shoot date goes in the diary. Usage is where festive contracts get expensive after the fact: a still cleared for social and then used on a hoarding is the single most common dispute.
- 3–5 weeks out
Shoot and post
Film, stills and cutdowns come out of one shoot, because going back for a second is not an option inside the window. Regional versions are planned here rather than retrofitted.
- Launch to Diwali
Run and amplify
The celebrity asset is the raw material; the reach comes from what carries it — creators, PR and paid. Campaigns that plan only the film tend to discover this in week one.
Which categories move at Diwali
Jewellery & gems
The most contested window of the year. Bookings run months ahead and regional faces routinely outperform national ones, because the purchase is family-led and made at a local house.
Apparel & footwear
Volume shifts on occasion-wear and gifting. Creator-led styling content tends to convert harder than a single brand film.
Consumer electronics & appliances
Diwali is the year's biggest sales event for large-ticket electronics. Recall built four weeks before the sale is what gets a brand onto the shortlist.
Automobile & two-wheelers
Deliveries cluster around auspicious dates, so the campaign's job is showroom footfall in the weeks before, not awareness during.
Food, sweets & gifting
Short, dense and regional. Several smaller faces across languages usually beat one large national booking.
Finance & fintech
Festive lending, gold loans and insurance renewals all spike. Casting leans to faces read as dependable rather than glamorous.
Festive campaign questions
When should we book a celebrity for a Diwali campaign?
Eight to ten weeks before you want to be live, and earlier for jewellery. The constraint is not budget, it is diaries — the faces worth having are committed months ahead, and a brand that starts in October is choosing from whoever is left rather than from whoever fits.
What does a festive celebrity campaign cost?
It depends far more on the face and the usage than on the season — a regional star for a single campaign and a national name on a year-long ambassador deal are different orders of magnitude. We come back with indicative pricing against your actual brief and budget rather than a rate card, usually within about 48 hours.
Is it cheaper to book outside the festive window?
Usually yes, and that is worth knowing when the campaign does not have to run at Diwali. Festive demand concentrates on a few weeks, and the same face booked in a quiet month often costs less and shoots on a calmer schedule.
Should we use one national celebrity or several regional ones?
For festive, several regional faces frequently beat one national booking — the occasion is celebrated differently across India, and a campaign in Marathi, Telugu or Gujarati lands closer to how people actually buy. We run campaigns across those languages from the same team.
How long does it take from brief to live?
Four to six weeks is realistic once a face is signed, covering shoot, post and regional versions. The shortlist itself comes back in about 48 hours; it is contracting and production that set the timeline.
Do we need a celebrity, or will creators do?
Often both, doing different jobs. A celebrity buys recall and legitimacy at the top of the funnel; creators carry the message into feeds people already trust. If the budget covers one and you need sales inside the window rather than brand-building, creators usually earn it back faster.
Who handles the shoot, contracts and usage rights?
We do, end to end — negotiation, the tri-party agreement, usage terms and the production itself. You are not coordinating between an agency, a production house and a celebrity's manager, which is where most festive timelines slip.
What happens after we send the brief?
A named person from the brand desk replies within one business day with a matched shortlist and indicative pricing. There is no obligation and your brief is not shared with other brands.
